First Presbyterian Church has been “serving the Lord Jesus Christ in Ashtabula since 1821.” First Presbyterian church is a church which has many connections: one of nine Presbyterian churches in Ashtabula County, one of the churches of the Presbytery of the Western Reserve in northeastern Ohio, and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

The First Presbyterian Church of Ashtabula is a member of the Confessing Church Movement, adhering to its three basic tenets: (1) Jesus is Lord, (2) The Bible is the Word of God, and (3) God calls His people to holy living. First Presbyterian Church is noted as being a praying church. There is a strong prayer ministry emphasis at First Presbyterian Church. First Presbyterian Church is basically conservative, believing Scripture to be the church’s highest authority. First Presbyterian Church is evangelical, taking Jesus’ Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) seriously. First Presbyterian Church is ecumenical, working closely with churches of the Ashtabula community and beyond.
